Modern Homestead LLC is a landscape design and build firm, based in Essex MA. We believe in a wholistic approach to your landscape, partnering with our clients to design and build landscapes that are uniquely tailored to the people and place.

As a boutique design/build company, we provide a single point of contact through the entire process , beginning with an initial consultation, creating your landscape design, then to the build/installation: landscape construction, lighting and plantings. In addition, we continue to partner with our clients in the the ongoing care and maintenance of their Landscapes.

PHilosophy

We believe every property is a homestead, a place where people come together, a place where the needs of our daily lives are met and nourished, a place to grow, a place where we gather with those we love or form new friendships, a place for rest, a bit of earth to call our own, and so much more. And we believe that no matter how big or small a homestead is, it can be all these things when designed and built well.

This is what we love best: to help people create a complete landscape, a modern homestead, not a cookie cutter landscape feature or garden bed, but a landscape that is uniquely design for the people that inhabit it, the landscape that it is apart of and is done so with an ecological mindset. We believe the spaces outside, matter as much as the spaces inside, and we strive to create spaces that call you out into them and encourage a deeper relationship with the world around us all.

We believe in the importance of cultivating resilience in our local communities, and we think that resiliences begins right on our own backyard and then spreads out, for that reason the we have been inspired by permaculture and seek to utilize its design principles and practices in our work.
